The Dubai Ziggurat: Population One Million

one thing the new millenium i think has been lacking in is the application of ideas relegated to science fiction, into the world of architecture. we have already seen ridiculous advances in technology, biology, astrophysics, and the like, but still live in unimaginative cubes. where are the geodesic lofts hanging suspended from trees, or the greenhouse communes in satelite around earth. so in that respect i also give it to Dubai for starting to stray from the convetional phallic structures that parade their downtown district. carbon neutral, self sustaining, city of one million, with horizontal and vertical public transportion, pyramid in the dessert.

with the current demagraphics of that city, one would probably be living surrounded by people from every continent on earth. in a society where most people can probably work from their home rather than commuting to whatever, most likely, purely capitalistic, job that they moved there for would eliminate commute and need for personal vehicles altogether. places like this make me wonder if there are artist grants large enough to facilitate a residency in a purely new kind of city.
